Windows Media Player 11.0 is the latest Media Player by Microsoft. It offers great new ways to store and enjoy all your music, video and pictures along with its new cool look. You must have Windows XP Service Pack-2 (SP2) in order to install Windows Media Player 11.0. But still you will face a problem while installing this new Windows Media Player if your copy of Windows XP is not a genuine (non-pirated) one, since WMP 11.0 installation requires genuine windows validation!!!

- Extract the downloaded Windows Media Player setup file (wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe) using WinRAR to a directory (wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu). Now make sure you have a “LegitLibM.dll” file in the extracted “wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu” folder.
- Download the patched LegitLibM.dll and then copy-paste it to the “wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu” folder and click yes when asked to overwrite.
- Now run “setup_wm.exe” file in the “wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu” folder.
- Restart your PC, then run your Windows Media Player and you are done!!!

Now the Query which i want to Shoot is:
Some movies do not play on WMP 11. They demand a few codecs which cannot be binded with the WMP itself in the first place. How do i deal with that?
and More over even if i do get the codecs(I hav a few for instance XVid and 3IVx)..How do i make them start wen i statr a movie in media player i.e. WMP 11??
The 1st method didn't work for me.. but this one is really working.! try it now!!!
*Open the extracted folder. Run the wmfdist11.exe file. then restart your PC.
*Go to the extracted folder again and run the wmp11.exe file.
Restart the computer again and ENJOY!!!

First of all, thanks for the person who posted this trick!
For the others who tried it and still didn't get it to work, you might have done something incorrectly.
You might have accessed the program by going to the Start Menu > All Programs > WMP, but that's not right because you'll still get the validation error.
After the failed attempt, here's what you need to do:
Reboot your pc. Go back to the folder wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu which stored the setup wm. Double click on setup wm again and validate it. It will do another process of preparing the install and choosing express or custom settings.
You should be good to go from there! Good luck!

Well, the way you siad didn't work at first..I tried some of the ways listed here and then I have no idea what I did but it worked...thanx to everyone :)
Very nice, I updated WMP9 to WMP11 by clicking the help tab and then clicking on the media updates thing, it downloaded it and installed it, when I ran WMP it still asked for validation but then I downloaded the LegitLibM.dll from here then copied and pasted it into the windows media player folder C:/Program files etc etc etc and Voila it works a treat, hacked xp and hacked media player FTW!!!

I have a different way of dealing with my windows media player 11 to bypass the genuine windows verifying stuff. I just made a new txt file, rename it to "setup_wm.exe" which must change the file format and overwrite the one in "program files/windows media player" folder.
Finally click properties and changed the attribute to "read only". A prompt will appear that notifies me about windows components not working properly and just ignored it and pressed ok to proceed. Hoping for feedbacks thx

i'm not really in to the tecnical workings of the computer so i did't know what the hell he was talking about but heres what i did.
i had windows media player 11 and it said something about it not being valid
so i down graded to the last windows i had
then i came here downloaded and saved the LegitLibM.dll
then i went in my computer the programs open the windows media player copied and pasted the LegitLibM.dll
it asked if i wanted to replace it i said yes i shut down the computer the validated again and i got it
