Salma Akhter :: Close Up1 2006 Winner in Bangladesh

Salma Akhter won the Close Up1: Tomakei Khujche Bangladesh 2006, a musical talent hunt show organized by Unilever Bangladesh. She clinched the title by winning the hearts of thousands of fans who voted for her to be the crown winner. About fifty two thousand contestants from home and abroad participated in this event. Yesterday at night (10.00 pm December 29, 2006) the organizers of the competition announced the name of the winner in a ceremony at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre and with this announcement, the tremendous excitement and curiosity of the last few days came to an end.

Salma Akhter was the youngest of all contestants in this competition. She is a very simple girl from a very poor family and she has been brought up in a small village in Kushtia. She generally likes to sing Fakir Lalon Shah’s songs. She didn’t learn music but her voice is God-gifted. Salma has taken Lalon as her inspiration and she may become among the greatest of singers. Salma loves music and loves her parents, who are supporting her every step of the way. She thinks her work is to sing and she wants to make Bangladesh proud with her amazing vocal abilities.

She is truly a natural singer. I always get the smell of Bangladeshi soil in her voice. I am not surprised at all as she walked away with the first prize, added Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, one of the honorable judges of this competition, on NTV.

Salma Akhter received as many as 17 lakhs 96 thousands 980 of votes from the viewers and 40 marks from the three honorable judges: Kumar Biswajit, Fahmida Nabi and Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul with total marks of 86 to win this competition quite convincingly while the first runner-up Muhin got 8 lakhs 51 thousands 367 of votes from the viewers and 46 marks from the judges. His total was 67. The second runner-up Nisheeta got 4 lakhs 20 thousands 477 of votes from viewers and 41 marks from the judges; that’s she got total of 51 marks.

The people of Kushtia brought out a big procession on Friday night in the district town as soon as the final result was announced. As a winner, Salma received a cheque for 10 lakh taka sponsored by Unilever Bangladesh, a brand new ‘Nissan’ car sponsored by BRAC Bank and 2 lakh taka as a scholarship for higher education in music by Western Money Transfer Ltd. The Unilever chairman in Bangladesh, Sanjib Mehta, handed over the cheque to the winner while Mosaddak Ali, Naushad Ahmed Chowdhury, Enayetur Rahman Bappy, Asaduzzaman Noor and Ali Zaker were present.

As a first runner-up, Muhin got a music contract of 5 lakh taka cheque and as a third runner-up, Nisheeta received a contract worth 3 lakh taka cheque. The rest top seven contestants received 1 lakh taka each. Moreover, these top ten contestants will get a chance to perform in concerts in Canada, Europe and America.

Besides these, the organizers handed over two more awards. Farah Diba Brishti, a contestant from Noagaon, won the ‘Close Up1 Confidence Award’ for taking part in this competition in spite of her injured legs (she had got one of her legs injured in a road accident while coming to participate in the audition round!) and ‘Dengu’ fever. Brishti received a crest and a cheque for fifty thousands taka. ‘Close Up 1 Patriotic Award’ went to Farzana Boby who now resides in the United States. She took the award along with a cheque for fifty thousands taka.

The grand final of the ‘Close Up1: Gao Bangladesh Gao’ was arranged at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka on the last night. Besides the invited guests, thousands of viewers at home & abroad enjoyed the live telecast of this 'Closeup1 Winner Announcement Program' in NTV. The gorgeous arrangements, beautiful lightings - all became glace-less by the flow-less performance & melodious music by the Closeup1 participants.

New Definition of Secularism...

On December 23, 2006 Awami League, the so called “secular” party of Bangladesh, signed a five point agreement with the Islamist group named ‘Khelafat Majlish’ saying they would contest in the polls together and the alliance, and if voted to power, would reserve the right of certain category of Islamic clerics to issue Fatwas [religious decrees].

Abdul Jalil, general secretary of Awami League, however, defended on Sunday his party’s move by saying, “I know what I’ve done and I’ve done it after due consideration!” Some other leaders along with some presidium members like Shuronjeet Shen, however, claimed it a lie and a media propaganda, though the agreement between Awami League and Khelafat Majlish has already been published in almost all media!!! Awami League general secretary Abdul Jalil and Khelafat Majlish secretary general Abdur Rab Yusufi signed the deal at the Azimpur residence of Allama Azizul Huq.

Initially, we proposed our five points to both the four party alliance led by BNP and fourteen party alliance led by Awami League. But Awami League was the first to express their interest in this five point agreement and make alliance with us. said Abdur Rab Yusufi.

Awami League may inspire the ‘Fatwa-baji’ issues, they may sign several non-secular agreements being a “secular” party, they may make alliance with the corrupted dictator Ershad, But we all can ignore these “small” issues, specially because of their great contribution in the achievement of our Independence. Most importantly, they have got the signboard of “secularism” along with ‘Fatwa-baji’. This is the “magical power” only Awami League has!

So my humble request to our country people, let us be united again and vote for them to win the national election at any cost!!! Because only then we will have both “secularism” and “Fatwas” from “Alems” at the same time! It would surely be the best ever Magic indeed!!!

Firefox 2.0.0.1 Final Version Released Today :: Grab it Now

Mozilla today secretly released the final version of Firefox 2.0.0.1 on their FTP servers though the update has not appeared on the Firefox homepage yet. This Firefox minor update is slated to fix hundreds of bugs including couple of memory leaks. Some noticeable fixes in Firefox 2.0.0.1 include:
  • Memory leak when loading Google Firefox homepage, clicking bookmark, and closing window
  • Memory leak on Google personalized home page
  • [Firefox:Installer]-Bookmarks missing, tabs broken, etc. (Firefox 2 install over Firefox 1.5.0.7 failed to replace some files.)
Since most of us spend a great deal of time watching web videos in our browsers using Flash players, it is recommended that you update the copy of Adobe Flash Player to version 9,0,28,0 which otherwise can be a reason for some Firefox 2.0 problems.

How to Install Multiple Versions of Internet Explorer (4.x, 5.x, 6.x and 7.x) on Your PC

Internet Explorer 7.0, the long awaited tabbed web browser by Microsoft, was released in October 2006 and it greatly improves its CSS rendering capabilities. I hope, you already have installed IE 7.0 on your PC; as you know, IE7 can be installed even in your pirated copy of windows XP bypassing the genuine windows validation. Since IE 7 is only available in Windows XP Service Pack 2.0 and Vista, so there are many who are still using Internet Explorer 6.x, 5.x or even lower versions!

If you are a serious web developer, you might be interested to install multiple versions of Internet Explorer on your PC so that you can test whether your web designs display correctly or not on all those versions. Unfortunately, the integration of Internet Explorer into the Windows operating system and Microsoft's refusal to allow multiple versions of it to run at the same machine, have made testing web sites in various versions of Internet Explorer very difficult. There are, however, some ways it can be done!!!

How to Install Microsoft Private Folder Bypassing Genuine Windows Validation...

Microsoft Private Folder is a useful tool for you to protect your private data when your friends, colleagues, kids or other people share your PC or account. With this tool, you will get one password protected folder called My Private Folder in your account to save your personal files.

Microsoft Private Folder is not intended to provide security against hackers. Without the password, they cannot unlock the private folder and cannot access any of the files or folders it contains.

But you will face a problem while installing Microsoft Private Folder if your copy of Windows XP is not a genuine (non-pirated) one, since Microsoft Private Folder installation requires genuine windows validation!!! So what to do??? There are some tricky steps through which you can install Microsoft Private Folder even in your pirated copy of windows XP bypassing the genuine windows validation. You just have to follow the following steps one by one:

  5. In the Orca's left pane, click on InstallUISequence.

  6. Select the action WelcomeForm from the right pane of Orca.

  7. Now Double-Click the condition value of WelcomeForm, and change its value from Installed=”” AND NOT RESUME to Installed=”” AND RESUME (only you have to to delete the word NOT).

  8. Finally save the modified MSPF10ENU.msi from File -> Save. (you have to select save, not save as).

Jim and Della Story...

Today one my close friends named Jim came to my home in the morning after a long break! He has been one of my best buddies since college days! We were in the same group (group one) in Notre Dame College and we used to sit together, eat together, play together and even walk around together. We were so close that most of our NDC buddies used to call us Jim and Della…lolz… After college, I got myself admitted in BUET and he in IUT. Since IUT campus is in Gazipur, he used to stay in the student hostel most of the times. So, we used to have lesser contact and as a result our closeness has been reduced a bit (out of sight, out of mind, you know) these days…it’s sad but it’s true.

Recently, he has completed his B.Sc. in Computer Science from IUT and joined in Stamford University Bangladesh as an Assistant Teacher. Though I am still a B.Sc. student… lolz… you might already know why… the so called session jam in BUET… :((

But recently me and Jim are becoming closer again as we were in those sweet college days… Jim,
after completing his BSc, started staying at home in Jigatola (not in Gazipur IUT Hostel :D) very near to my home… and the university campus (Stamford University, Dhanmondi Campus), where he teaches nowadays, is even closer to our home… So nowadays, we meet each other more frequently and in this process, we are becoming closer (inSight, in mind…lolz)!

Today morning, when he came to our home, we had a long chat for more than four hours… We mainly discussed about the ongoing political problem in Bangladesh… We argued whether M. A. Aziz, the current C.E.C. of Bangladesh, would resign himself soon or not… and on some more political issues… It’s a natural thing nowadays you know… wherever you would go, you would surely find some people discussing these political things… whatever, I think I should skip writing those political issues…

We also discussed about his recent teaching experiences… and he shared some of his funny ones with me! While talking about Stamford University, he also shared an interesting dress rule for the students of that university I never knew… I think I should end this Jim and Della story by sharing that rule with you…

Wearing sleeveless dress not allowed in Stamford University, Bangladesh. This is what I got over their Dress code for the students

Well… actually it doesn’t say “not allowed to” … rather it is saying “advised not to”. If private universities like NSU, IUB and others also start such rules… I guess they gonna lose ummm… 50%-75% of their students… lolz. What you people think ??

Windows XP Service Pack 3.0 :: No need to wait more…

We need Windows XP Service Pack 3.0 badly now. When you install a new XP system, after installing Service Pack 2.0, you will find over 60 more updates to install now. We predicted Service Pack 3.0 would be out sometime in 2006!!! But 2006 is almost over. Most of the ‘XP Service Pack 3.0 predictions’ were based on statements from Microsoft executives and the Windows Service Pack roadmap available on the Microsoft Site.

Microsoft initially hinted that XP Service Pack 3.0 could be released before Longhorn but very soon, Windows Vista became the top priority and Service Pack 3.0 development was pushed further back.

Service Pack 3.0 was planned as a regular bug fix release with no new features though there were rumors that Internet Explorer 7.0 and Windows Media Player 11.0 could be bundled with XP SP3. Unfortunately, nothing of this sort happened and Microsoft finally pushed XP Service Pack 3.0 to first half of 2008.

Now the next big question – “How to keep track of various security patches, updates and hotfixes that have been released by Microsoft since Windows XP Service Pack 2.0” debuted in August 2004??

While you can install Windows XP Service Pack 2.0 from the CD, connect the computer to the internet and turn on Windows Update so that all patches are automatically downloaded and installed, this is certainly not the best approach - imagine when your net connection breaks or you have to build 10 computers or you don't have internet at all??

Well, here's an easy installer package that will install every single Microsoft update on your XP Service Pack 2.0 computer. The program is called Autopatcher for XP and maintained by a group of Windows enthusiasts who update this program every month embedding new fixes that Microsoft released in the previous month. Like other standard Windows installers, Autpatcher also features a slick looking GUI and can be customized to install as much or as little as you please.

The most remarkable part of Autopatcher is that you don't have to restart your Windows machine after every update. With AutoPatcher, you can install critical patches offline, eliminating the risk of getting infected while using Windows Update.

How to get your MSN Mobile Message in your Email Inbox...

Windows Live Messenger (mostly known as MSN Messenger) is the most popular instant messaging software in the world. Besides online chatting, we can send a message to the mobile device of our MSN buddy if that buddy has already configured his MSN Mobile account with his Wireless Service provider. But still there are some drawbacks in this MSN Mobile Messaging Service. First, MSN only supports a few wireless service provider and Second, those wireless serivce providers cut your mobile credit whenever a message is received from your MSN buddy thorugh MSN Messenger. But, you even can use your any email account inbox as the receiver of MSN Mobile Messaging Service. As a result, whenever any of your MSN buddy sends a message to your mobile device, you will receive an email in your inbox containing that message instead of your mobile device. But for this, at first you have to sign up for a MSN Mobile Account with any of your email address. And you can do it very easily by following these steps :
  1. Sign in your Windows Live Messenger aka MSN Instant Messenger.

  2. Go to "Tools > Options > Phone" in the MSN Messenger.

  4. Click on the "Join Now" button in the "Get MSN in your mobile phone".

  5. Now choose "Other" as your "Wireless service provider".

  7. Select "I have read and agree to the pricing and terms of use" and click "Next" button.

  8. Now open a new window in your browser, check your email account you have just mentioned as your mobile address and you are supposed to get a confirmation code there from MSN Mobile.

Uniquely Singapore...

Yap... I am back. On the 26th October (the day after Eid-ul-Fitr) I had left for Singapore with my family as I said before in my previous blog entry and I returned on the 1st November. The trip was supposed to be longer but due to some official reasons of my parents, we had to return earlier. It was a nice little holiday trip and I enjoyed a lot.

S
ingapore is an island city-state and the smallest country in South-East Asia. I never knew that the entire Singapore is as small as our Dhaka city. But it is highly developed. Singapore has the highest standard of living in Asia and is ranked 11th in the World.

The name 'Singapore' is derived from two Malay words 'Singa' (that means Lion) and 'Pura'(that means city). Hence, Singapore is also known as the Lion City. Now, you might be thinking why it is called Lion City!!! According to folklore, this island city state was first discovered by a Prince named Sang Nila Utama. The first animal he saw after he had set foot on the island was supposedly a lion. Therefore, he decided to name this island 'Singapura'. Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, an official with the British East India Company, is known to be the founder of the modern Singapore!

Singapore is the place that once you come you won't like to leave any more! Everything is more than beautiful. During this short trip, we had visited several beautiful paces. We had visited the Zoo, Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari, Sentosa and Mount Faber. Among those places, Night Safari is simply amazing. It's the most beautiful Safari I have ever visited and it's the world's first ever Night Safari. We also enjoyed a lot the Bird Show in the Jurong Bird Park. We also visited to the Sentosa Beach. The beauty and cleanness of this beach really amazed us.

We did some shopping as well. As you know, Singapore is always a great place for shopping since it's a port city and everything you will buy as a tourist will be tax free. You would surely love to buy some electronic goods and clothings. We had visited several shoppings malls including the famous 'Mustafa' and almost all shopping malls in the beautiful Orchard Road. Even those shopping malls are adding beauty to this island city!

Every time, I went abroad I never missed to have foods in some famous food chain shops. This time was not a different one. Almost everyday, we used to go to KFC or McDonald's. We also went to a Bengali Restaurant named 'Kostouri' (not the chain of our Bangladeshi one though) as well and their foods are as tasty as any Bangladeshi restaurant. KFC is my all time favorite and my mom loves the Crispy Chicken Burger of McDonald's. So every time, I wanted to go to KFC where my mom wanted to go to McDonald's. And so there were always some arguments between us. It's really funny! :D

Now I just wish to say how much I appreciate the helpfulness and honesty of the Singaporean people. On this trip, my dad had lost his wallet and didn't realize it until he returned to the hotel at least an hour later. But after about two hours a phone call came to our hotel and a friendly staff at Night Safari confirmed to my dad that they had the wallet of my dad. Then my dad went to the Night Safari again and collected his lost wallet with everything inside. I just cannot imagine getting back a lost wallet in a park where zillions of people pass through in any city/country other than Singapore.

Singapore, your are truly unique...To me, you are almost 100 years ahead of our country! It's sad for us but it is true. It is discipline and determination that made Singapore ahead of most Asian countries. I am really looking forward to visit this beautiful Singapore again...

Selected photos of our Singapore Trip has already been uploaded in the Photo Gallery. You can directly check out those photos from here.

How to Install Internet Explorer 7.0 Bypassing Genuine Windows Validation...

Internet Explorer 7.0 is the long awaited tabbed web browser by Microsoft. Nearly four years after the release of Internet Explorer 6.0, in the face of growing competition from Mozilla's Firefox, Microsoft has finally given the old IE platform a facelift. Optimized design along with new cool interface, favorites centre, search box, RSS feeds and most importantly easy to use tabbed browsing are the exclusive features of this new internet explorer.

You must have Windows XP Service Pack-2 (SP2) in order to install Internet Explorer 7.0. But still you will face a problem while installing this new Internet Explorer if your copy of Windows XP is not a genuine (non-pirated) one, since IE 7.0 installation requires genuine windows validation!!! So what to do??? Don’t worry… There are some tricky steps through which you can install IE 7.0 even in your pirated copy of windows XP bypassing the genuine windows validation. You just have to follow the following steps one by one:
  1. Download Internet Explorer 7.0 installer from the Microsoft site. You have to choose Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) as your operating system. Remember you can’t install IE 7.0 if service pack 2.0 is not installed in your operating system. And if you are facing genuine windows validation problem while downloading IE7 installer from the Microsoft site, can also download this installer alternatively from here or directly from here.

  2. Extract the downloaded Internet Explorer setup file (IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe) using WinRAR to a directory (IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu).

  3. Download the patched iecustom.dll and then copy-paste it to the update folder (IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu\update\) and click yes when asked to overwrite.

  4. Now, download normaliz.exe . Then copy this exe file and paste it in your “c:\” drive.

  5. Run ‘update.exe’ in the update folder (not iesetup.exe!!!). At the end, you have to choose ‘Restart Later’ (not Restart Now) option to finish the running process of the exe file.

  6. Now you have to download normaliz.dll and then copy-paste it to “c:\windows\system32\” directory (in order to prevent problems with the file not being found after the installation). And then reboot/restart your pc.

  7. After rebooting your pc, you may face a problem with a file called normaliz.dll that can not be found by explorer.exe. If you’re having this problem, you will find your desktop blank.(If you are not facing this problem then just go to step 8) In order to fix this problem, you have to do the following things one by one:

    1. Press ctrl-alt-del to go to the task manager.
    2. Go to “File -> New Task (Run…)” in the task manager.
    3. Type: ‘C:\normaliz.exe’ (excluding quotation marks) in the ‘open’ field and then press the ‘ok’ button.
    4. WinZip Self-Extractor - normalize.exe’ window should popped up and then press the ‘unzip’ button.
    5. Reboot your pc and yahoo!!! now you can see your desktop contents!!!.

  8. Now you have to run ‘xmllitesetup.exe’ in the update folder. This step is very important, because somehow if you forget to run this ‘xmllitesetup.exe’ , IE 7.0 will be installed in your PC without it's toolbar!!!

  9. Then reboot your pc again, run Internet Explorer…and you are done!!!

Not Dead Yet ... ...

It has been a while since I wrote a blog entry… but my weblog is not dead yet… During this long break, some of my readers wanted me to know why I was not writing those days… and the reason is nothing but my semester final exam! It was my 7th semester final exam in buet and I am supposed to be promoted to my last semester (L-4,T-2) after the result… Every semester final exam in buet gives me some terrible experiences and the last one is not a different one… But I don’t wanna share those terrible things with you though… The bottom line is: I am just fed up with buet and freaking buet exams… Now, I just wanna get rid of it… The good news for me is: only some five~six months to go and then hopefully, my graduation will be completed!!! So guys… wish me luck for my last few days in buet…

Shab-e-Barat :: Authentic or not ??

Shab-e-Barat’ is observed with due solemnity and religious fervor in different parts of the world. Specially in this subcontinent, the night is observed as an age old celebration. Although the references as to observance of ‘Shab-e-Barat’ in the Holy Hadith are regarded as weak injunctions, but the night draws a large number of devotees to salat, fasting, ziarat, poor feeding, sweet distribution and more!

Devoted Muslims of only Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan celebrate the ‘Shab-e-Barat’ on the 15th day of Shaban (the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar). Although this night is not celebrated in any other Muslim land. ‘Shab-e-Barat’, also known as ‘Laylatul Barat’ or ‘Laylatul Nusfmin Shaban’, is a traditional Islamic day of festival and worship in the South Asia. According to the ascetic Muslims, this is the day of divine benediction. Offering prayers and fasting in this particular day is said to have greater acceptance from God.

But if one traces back the root of this prestigious night, one might come up with the fact that “No” verse of the Holy Quran has any indication pointing to the existence of any such an occasion called ‘Shab-e-Barat’. The result is same if one goes through the authentic ‘Ahadeeth’ (plural of Hadeeth), which is the sayings or doings of our great Prophet Muhammad. Nothing firm and reliable has been established on the authority of the Prophet that he held nigh vigil prayer and fasted during the day of the 15th of ‘Shaban’. So, the night of the 15th of ‘Shaban’ is like any other night, and if someone regularly observes acts of worship during other nights, then he may hold night vigil prayer on this night without assuming anything special.

It should be noted that an Islamic celebration must have its evidences in the two penultimate sources of Islam, the Quran and the Hadeeth. According to the Islamic creed, none has the right to innovate a way of worship. Only the God and his messenger, our great Prophet, hold the right to set such an occasion.

In Islam, if there is no authentic proof in an act then the act is regarded as an innovation and all innovations are misguidance. So, what we can finally tell is that, though this celebration will be observed with utmost respect by the contemporary Muslim society here in the subcontinent, but one should really think seriously about what it is all about.

No more 'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin...

Crocodile HunterHe stalked lions. He faced off with poisonous snakes. He wrestled with crocodiles. When the end came for television's beloved ‘Crocodile Hunter’, it was in an encounter with a stingray and its venomous tail barb. Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality, mostly known as the Crocodile Hunter, was killed at the age of 44 on the last Monday (Sept 04, 2006) by a stingray while shooting a new TV show on the ‘Great Barrier Reef’.

Perhaps it wasn't surprising. Steve Irwin died doing what he loved best, getting too close to one of the dangerous animals, he dedicated his life to protecting with an irrepressible, effervescent personality that propelled him to global fame. It’s almost impossible to fully understand Steve Irwin’s immense popularity around the world where his audience was measured in the hundreds of millions…

StingrayMarine experts called the death a freak accident. They said rays reflexively deploy a sharp spine in their tails when frightened, but the venom coating the barb usually just causes a very painful sting for humans.News of Irwin's death reverberated around the world, where he won popularity with millions as the man who regularly leaped on the back of huge crocodiles and grabbed deadly snakes by the tail.

"Crikey!" was his catch phrase, repeated whenever there was a close call - or just about any other event - during his television program ‘Crocodile Hunter’. First broadcast in Australia in 1992, the program was picked up by the Discovery network, catapulting Irwin to international celebrity.

"I am shocked and distressed at Steve Irwin's sudden, untimely and freakish death", Australian Prime Minister John Howard said. "It's a huge loss to Australia."

Bloggers Around The World...

After the celebration of Blog Day, 2006, I’ve felt that every blogger should have some posts (besides his other regular posts) where he will promote some other bloggers to his visitors to help in spreading new ideas, cultures and opinions! Hence, from now ‘Bloggers Around The World’ will be one of my regular posts through which I will try to share different interesting thoughts of some other bloggers with you… So without further ado, here goes my recommended blog entries for this week…

  • Have you ever heard of ‘GOOD’ bribery?? You people may be thinking I have gone mad! But, I tell you bribes can be good as well if it's flowing in the right direction… Can’t believe me?? Then check out Mr. Salam’s exclusive idea of ‘Good Bribes’…

  • Girls are always different from guys by nature… If you are female, then you admit it or not there are certain things that you do, but guys will never do… Check out the interesting post ‘They Are From Venus’ by Mezba Bhai.

  • In Bangladesh, we all are more or less fed up with the ongoing Load Shedding problem… I think, ours is the only country in the world where hundreds of people came out from home at midnight and took part in the ‘Michhil’ for Electricity… But at the same time, there are some super optimistic persons like my friend ‘Rajputro’ who has found out some beneficial sides of Load Shedding…

  • Recently Shakia, a Bangladeshi girl living in Sweden, has had a painting exhibition! This is the first ever time she has exposed her art publicly. I have visited her online portfolio in Flickr and I must tell you that all the paintings are amazing…I am personally loving those specially because: Bangladesh and Bangladeshi culture have been reflected in her paintings...

  • Have you ever heard of the campaign: ‘Hair Cut for Cancer’?? Confused huh?? From Nowal’s blog, I came to know that cancer patients may lose their hair after taking chemotherapy as treatment. So they have to use ‘wigs’ (12 peoples hair + about 8-10 inches long = 1 wig) until their hair grows back and these ‘wigs’ are made from donated hair. Recently, Nowal has had a short hair cut for making a donation to Canadian Cancer Society. Read this full hair cut story from here.

  • Wanna know: are you in the 2% or 98% of the population?? The Bengali Fob has found an interesting Mind Game to find it out… Check out this amazing mind game from here.

  • Recently, Sumaiya Mehreen, a Bangladeshi artist, has started a digital portfolio which includes her artworks and the inspirations behind them. Take a look at her beautiful paintings.

- Visit those sites, have fun and let me know your response... Though it's not a fun time for me. As far as I know, finally my semester final exam is gonna start from the 23rd of this month... So wish me luck... Ciao!

Happy Blog Day...

Happy Blog DayHave you ever noticed that the date 31/08 => 3108 (August 31st) looks like the word 'Blog' ?? I have never noticed it before…But yesterday while surfing in the net, I came to know this interesting thing and finally found out that August 31 is known as the official Blog Day. Mr. Nir Ofir, the Editor in Chief of an Israeli Portal: Tapuz.co.il, first ever noticed this similarity when he was in the first Blog conference held in Israel and on that day, he started the ‘Blog Day’ idea. And within a very short time, this idea became a biggest hit among the bloggers around the world and they started to celebrate 31st August as International Blog Day.

Blog Day was initiated with the belief that bloggers should have one day which will be dedicated to know about other bloggers, preferably from other countries or areas of interests. In that day, a blogger will recommend about five weblogs to his blog visitors to help in spreading new ideas, cultures and opinions. So without further ado, here goes my five recommendations…

  • Darren Straight’s Blog : This is a technology weblog by Darren Straight who is an avid blogger and technology enthusiast. He loves the passion of beta testing new products and services from Microsoft.

  • Post Secret : The Post Secret project asks people to write down a secret on a postcard and send it to them, usually anonymously. These postcards are then scanned in and posted on the blog every Sunday. Many secret-posters have found this to be a huge source of catharsis, and I find it always an insightful read. It’s sometimes uplifting, and often sad to read what secrets others are hiding away.

  • 3rd World View : This weblog is posted by Mr. Rezwan, a Bangladeshi, living in Berlin, Germany. He was the winner of ‘Weblog 2004 Awards’ in the best Bangladesh weblog category. His blog mainly deals with Bangladesh related matters.

  • Hasan’s Weblog : This is a programming and technology related blog posted by a computer geek named Mr. Tanveer Hussain Khan Hasan. So if you have a good interest in web development, then I personally recommend this weblog.

  • Hack MSN Spaces : This is the most popular weblog among the windows live spacers! Since, I had been a windows live space user in the initial period of my blogging, I became a great fan of this space. This weblog is all about the customization of your windows live space and it is posted by a computer geek named Dev living in UK. So if you are a windows live spacer and if you want to customize your weblog, don’t forget to check out this space regularly.

Blog Day Posting Instructions :
  1. Find five blogs that you find interesting.

  2. Notify the 5 bloggers that you are recommending on them on the occasion of ‘Blog Day’.

  3. Write a short description of the Blogs and place a link to the recommended weblogs.

  4. Post the ‘Blog Day Post’ (on August 31st) and

  5. Add the ‘Blog Day’ tag using this following link :

  6. http://technorati.com/tag/BlogDay2006

And a link to Blog Day official web site at http://www.blogday.org.

How to add 'Blog Day' logo in your post :
